2025 Registration
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register my child to play with PJFC?
Visit our registration page here: PJFC Registration. This will redirect you to the PlayHQ system, where you’ll need an account. Follow the steps and answer the required questions. Once completed, you can pay the registration fee, which covers both PJFC and league fees.
Need help with registration?
For assistance, contact our Registrar, Peter Cotter, at registrar@prahranjfc.com .For issues like changing your email address linked to PlayHQ, you’ll need to contact PlayHQ directly at clubhelp@afl.com.au
Does the PJFC Summer Development Program registration cover regular season registration (and vice versa)?
No, the Summer Development Program registration is separate from the regular season registration and payment.
Do I need to provide any documents to PJFC?
Players in their first year of football (e.g., Under 8) must provide a proof of age document (e.g., birth certificate or passport) to confirm their date of birth before registration is accepted.
These documents can be emailed to registrar@prahranjfc.com or shown in person at a training session. Returning or transferred players do not need to provide additional documents.
How much is it to register with PJFC?
The registration fee is $403, with $345 allocated to PJFC for football program administration and $58 paid to the league.
Are financial assistance or discounts available?
Yes, PJFC offers support for families who may find registration costs challenging, including fee reductions or waivers.
For a confidential discussion, please contact Peter Cotter at registrar@prahranjfc.com or President Jo Harris at president@prahranjfc.com.
I’ve registered my child, but they’re injured, unable to play, or have chosen not to. Can I get a refund?
We offer a refund of the club portion for withdrawals before 15 March. After that, pro-rata refunds may be available to cover participation and administrative costs.
Please contact the Registrar for arrangements. You can also request a refund for the league’s $58 fee.
When do I have to register my child?
We encourage early registration to assist with team allocations and avoid missing out on a spot. Priority is given to players registered by 1 February.
Teams are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Registrations typically close mid-March, but some age groups may close earlier if squads are full. Team allocations occur on 25 March.
Can I wait until just before the season starts (27 April) or even after it begins to register my child?
While you can register close to the start of the season, there may be no available spots if teams are full or registrations have closed.
If a spot is available, you can still register. For age groups with grading, players who missed the grading may be placed in a lower division.
We may accept late registrations for teams with available spots until 1 June. If your child joins after the season begins (e.g., recently moving in the area), a reduced registration fee may be offered.
What age group will my child be allocated to?
Please refer to the guidance on our registration page: PJFC Registration.
How many teams will there be in my child’s age group?
The number of teams depends on registrations. While we’ve outlined above preliminary plans for 2025 based on 2024 team numbers, if the registrations are significantly more / less than planned, then we will amend the number of teams accordingly. This is one of the reasons we encourage early registrations to assist with this team planning.
My child wants to play with all their school friends—can we arrange this?
PJFC intentionally mixes teams to ensure we embrace our key values of diversity, inclusion and meeting new kids.
We avoid "whole school teams" to help prepare players for future age groups, where teams are based on ability. For U8–U10, players can list up to three friends, and we aim to include at least one in their team allocation.
Can my child play “up” in an older age group for the whole season?
PJFC generally prefers players to play in their designated age group unless there are strong reasons (e.g., to play with kids of the same school year level).
Players wishing to play up must request this to the Registrar and providing justification.
The club will assess factors such as age, school year level, physical size, ability, maturity, and the division of the older team before making a decision.
Can my child play “down” in a younger age group?
Players wishing to play in a younger age group must obtain an exemption from the league under the AFL’s Age Dispensation Policy, typically supported by documentation.
This decision is made by the league, not PJFC. Please contact the Registrar for more details. If a player has received this dispensation in previous seasons, a renewal request is required each year.
My child won’t be playing AFL in 2025—do we need to do anything?
There’s no formal action required, but it helps with team planning if you inform us so we can adjust team allocations accordingly
My child has a friend at another club who wants to join PJFC—how do we arrange this?
Contact the PJFC Registrar, who will coordinate the transfer. All players need to request a transfer from their previous club before registering with PJFC.
The process is straightforward, and PJFC can initiate the request via PLAYHQ. Objections to transfers are rare and usually only occur if the player owes money or has outstanding club property.
My child wants to play for a different club in 2025—how do we arrange this?
We understand that for a range of reasons a player may wish to transfer to a different team. Although it is not required, it is useful for PJFC’s planning if you let us know of the planned transfer so we can factor this into the team allocations.
Similar to above, the new club will submit the transfer via PLAYHQ and PJFC approves the transfer. It is rare for a club to object to a transfer and the grounds for objection are narrow.
What if my child is in a graded age group and doesn’t want to be graded?
Grading is optional. Players can choose to be placed in the lower division of their age group if preferred. However, we encourage all players to participate in grading, as the feedback can be valuable.
What is the Code of Conduct?
PJFC requires all parents and players to read and acknowledge the Code of Conduct before registration. This outlines expectations for training, game day, and social conduct at the Club. The code is available via the registration process and can also be accessed here.
When will I know what team my child is in and who their coach will be?
Teams and coaches will be announced around 25 March for graded teams. We hope to share the ungraded teams and coaches earlier, but this is pending registration numbers.
