Happy New Year to our PJFC Community!

We hope you are enjoying a break over the summer holidays. Whilst the footy season is still some months away, we wanted to share some information to help you get organised for the season ahead.

We are keeping the website up to date, along with the 2026 season schedule, for those of you extra organised to get dates in the diary.

Key Dates:

  • Jan 12 - Registrations open for current members

  • Feb 1 - Interclub transfers open

  • April 19 - Round #1

Registrations for Season 2026

Registrations will open on Monday January 12.

Click here to view the relevant PlayHQ link and further details on the PJFC website.

  • Returning players and new players to AFL are given priority registrations between January 12 to January 31.

  • Registrations will open to transfers from other clubs from February 1.

To assist our planning we encourage returning players to register prior to the end of January.

PJFC Teams and Age Group Planning 2026

Our 2026 team plans are outlined below, subject to registration numbers.

Early registrations are encouraged to support our planning.

Under 8 – Under 10:

  • Girls: Aiming for a combined U8/U9 team, and 1 team Under 10 (subject to registrations).

  • Mixed/Boys: At least 2 teams per year level, possibly 3.

Remember: Balanced teams encourage fun, friendship, and skill development!

Under 11 – Under 14:

  • Girls: 1 team each in Under 11 and Under 12, and 2 teams in Under 13 and Under 14.

  • Mixed/Boys: At least 2 teams per year level, with a 3rd if registrations allow.

Under 15 – Under 16:

  • Girls: 1 combined U15/U16 team.

  • Boys: 3 Under 15 teams; 1 Under 16 team, with a 2nd possible based on registrations.

Under 17 – Under 18:

We aim to provide continued opportunities for players in Years 10–12, balancing school commitments and community football. Thanks to SMJFL for supporting age exemptions for players above the limit but still in school.

  • Girls: 1 combined U17/U18 team.

  • Boys: 1 Under 17.5 team (year 11 & 12).

Registration Fees

Registration fees will be $405, of which $345 will go to PJFC for its football program and $60 goes directly to the league. There are no changes to PJFC fees for 2026.

PJFC has some flexibility in relation to player registration fees in some circumstances. In particular, the club has a program to support players and families who may find meeting the costs of registration and participation a challenge. We also provide reduced fees for players who are part of a talent pathway with limited availability to play for PJFC.

If you would like a discussion about registration fees, please reach out to our Registrar prior to registering your child.

Got questions? Look at the details & FAQS on our website – and then reach out to our Registrar (Peter Cotter) at registrar@prahranjfc.com.au

PJFC Registration and Team Allocation Approach

A reminder for those who are unfamiliar with PJFC’s registration process.

Players are allocated to teams once registrations have been closed, or as year levels approach squad group limits.

Our approach to allocating teams is based on our philosophy that players benefit from making new friendships, whilst still nurturing the old. We also ensure players experience different coaching voices and styles through their football journey.

Under 8 - Under 10: players are asked to indicate up to three friends, at least one of which will be in the team allocation. We avoid “whole school teams” wherever possible and mix teams to ensure that players are prepared eventually for older age groups (typically U12 and above) where they are placed in teams according to ability through an independent grading process.

Grading: Occurs from Under 12 upwards for any age group where there is more than 1 team. We will have information regarding the grading process, including details of when and where in future newsletters.

Pre-Season Footy Opportunities

Summer Skills Sessions are optional and are designed to improve skills, meet other kids, and enjoy some footy fun. These will begin in February with details to be confirmed shortly.

Grounds are currently in use for cricket, however, council will soon release allocations for all footy clubs for pre-season requirements.

PJFC pre-season programs will kick off after the completion of the Summer Skills Sessions, followed by grading for the ages and teams required.

Working With Children Check

It is compulsory for all parent volunteers to have a valid WWCC. Whether you are a coach, team manager, committee member, water carrier, runner or umpire escort, you must have entered your WWC number into your PlayHQ volunteer registration. This can be done at the same time as registering your child for the season.

We rely heavily on volunteers to support all teams to get on the ground, so to lend a hand, we ask you to get prepared and apply, if you have not done so already.

WWCC can be obtained online here and will only take 15 mins of your time. These are valid for 5 years. Be sure to have your ID documents ready when logging on.

Enjoy the sunny days ahead and we will be in touch again once registrations open on Jan 12.
