Grading

Grading occurs in under 12 upwards for any age group where there is more than 1 team (so not all age groups are graded)

Grading training/games are necessary for kids wishing to be considered for higher ranked teams and are welcome to attend as many as they like. We have 1 grading game date available and It is advised for all kids participating in grading to attend the game.

Things to know:

  • Footy boots are worn for grading training and games. Mouthguard needed for games.

  • Sessions will proceed in all weather conditions, except thunderstorms.

  • Attendance will be taken at each session and kids can simply turn up to 1 or more of the training sessions available. It is advised all graded kids attend the game session.

  • Wayne Oswald (Director of Coaching) is overseeing ALL graded sessions with his selected coaching team.

  • If your child is keen to be graded but unable to make any of the sessions, please reach out to us: ben.schauder@prahranjfc.com.au
  • If your child chooses not to be graded, which is fine, they will be placed in the lower division team automatically.

The Grading Process:
The grading process is designed to assess footy skills and footy IQ.
Training sessions are the most important to attend as game simulation drills are utilised. Training allows the isolation of skills and translates this skill into footy intelligence, the core of grading. Training gives the grading panel background on the kids to take into the game. They will be placed in game positions accordingly.

Grading Games are a chance for the coaching crew to see where kids are best suited for their personal development. It may be that a child needs to build confidence, so this is assessed in a game and factored into team allocation.

Grading games are not compulsory. As training is where the majority of grading occurs, please do not worry if you are unable to make the game.
